Type II diabetes (Adult onset) has increased dramatically amongst children over the last couple of decades due to the huge inroads into the food market made by junk food corporations.
Many adolescents and young adults with diabetes have now been shown in a study to fall far short of diet recommendations.
This is not necessarily due to lack of diet education (although a problem for sure) but its more so due to the fact that even if people no whats bad for them, if its a habit, often they can’t help themselves.
Its the same reason why people who have heart attacks continue smoking.
Its hard to give up old habits.
Most people simply do not know how to give up an old habit or replace it with a new more positive habit.
Eating bad foods is not as addictive as nicotine but its still addictive. And junk food corporations can still market their products as much as they want - so it gets drummed into their heads constantly that junk food is what they want to eat.
Most of the diets of these diabetics are low in vitamins and minerals and had twice as much sugary soda.
