Have you ever met anyone who has gone to Weight Watchers and kept their weight off?
I never have.
I’m going to talk about two key reasons why Weight Watchers is flawed and is a poor way to improve your body shape.
The first reason that Weight Watchers is poor method is that it counts calories using a point system.
Counting Calories as a way to keep weight off is a fundamentally flawed system.
Why?
Firstly because not all calories are created equal. Certain foods use up more calories to digest both at a macro and micro level. 100 grams of lean protein for instance uses far more energy to digest than 100 grams of sugar.
Secondly because if you compare foods carbs for carbs the amount of eating required to get the same amount of carbs varies dramatically between processed carbs and carbs from whole foods.
For instance you would need to eat 3307 grams of Celery to get the same amount of carbs as 200 grams of Jelly Beans.
The amount of energy required to digest 3307 grams of Celery (or 3.3 kilo’s) is massive compared to the amount of energy required to digest 200 grams of Jelly Beans. That means the net energy available for use after eating the Celery will be much lower.
The other major problem with Counting Calories is that it doesn’t take into account the types of hormones that foods cause your body to release.
If you sit at a movie and eat 200 grams of Jelly Bean’s it will cause your body to have an insulin spike. Insulin is the hormone that is released to covert excess body sugars to fat on your mid rift.
But that’s not all.
There is a negative correlation for Insulin and your bodies natural fat burner and muscle building hormone - Growth Hormone.
What that means is spiking your insulin will suppress your bodies ability to produce Growth Hormone - which is a bad thing if you want to stay lean.
Chronic spiking of your insulin by eating sugars leads to type 2 diabetes. Under the weight watchers points system you can spike your insulin as much as you want as long as you don’t go over your points. That means some people in theory can be following the weight watchers point system and still get diabetes.
The second major flaw of the Weight Watchers system is that they sell their own processed products under the weight watchers label.
This is highly misleading since these products are filled with refined carbs and simple sugars. The muesli bars and breakfast bars that Weight Watchers sell are the exact kinds of products that can lead to diabetes when these types of food make up the bulk of you diet.
Some people believe that because it has the Weight Watchers label on it, then it must be alright.
The fact is any type of weight loss product that is a processed food is inherently dodgy. It’s made up mainly of processed carbs which are the prime cause of type 2 diabetes and being overweight.
Here is a photo of a 70 year old man named Arthur De Vany. Using his methods I lost 27 pounds in 2 months to my goal weight and have kept it off ever since. Here is another example of the results using his method.

Weight Watchers does so much more than count calories. you’ll need better research to make flawed claims realistic.
Read the article properly.
At the end of the day promoting foods which include processed carbs is total b.s.
W.W. DOES work! You should research the diet a little more. I know 2 people that HAVE kept their weight off. One of those people is my mother and she has kept hers off for over 10 years. The other is a good friend of mine who has kept it off for about 4 years now. My mom has had various medical problems and since following W.W. she has resolved most of them. It IS healthy. Seems it is way too easy for people to post incorrect information on the internet!
Good for her. I still maintain it’s a poor system.
Yeah a “poor” system that has helped keep 60 lbs. off of this body for 2 years and counting.
Just because it didn’t work for you, doesn’t mean it’s flawed and an bad plan. I know several people who follow Weight Watchers and have kept their weight off. It is the healthiest plan out there today!!!!
@Rosemary, processed carbs are not healthy. Weight watchers is far from the healthiest plan.
If you don’t like Weight Watchers, that’s fine. I happened to work for me and I did it by avoiding processed foods; I instead to eat organic. Your argument is flawed, however, and NO medical provider would EVER say that loosing 27 lbs in 2 months is at all healthy. Following a plan that promises the impossible is not only stupid, it’s dangerous. You should be ashamed for pushing it on people who are trying to loose weight in a healthy way. There are plenty of healthy alternatives to Weight Watchers and the Arthur De Vany diet is not one of them. Have a nice day.
@michelle, I am interested to know what qualifies you to speak on behalf of all ‘medical providers’.
You say it is impossible yet Arthur De Vany’s way has worked for me, and many others have similar results. I’ve kept my weight off for 3 years now without counting a single calorie.
Please don’t bother posting emotional comments.
Learn about science instead.
Prove this hypothesis wrong:
200 calories of chocolate cake will cause a different insulin response in the body than 200 calories of beef.
Now prove this hypothesis wrong:
Different insulin responses cause the body to use and store calories in different ways.
Ok heres my comment, before starting WW’s i talked to my dr.He said it had the best results as of today as far as keeping your weight off.I am a diabetic, im on insulin, i know that i have to watch the natural sugars in fruit and other foods, but for 2 weeks i have not had any insullin.WW’s is a change of lifestyle of eating, its not what i call a DIET!!!.Use your head cut back on portions and exercise.
I lost 90 lbs on weight watchers over a 2 year period. I have maintained that weight loss for over 2 years now. If that’s not success, please tell me what is! Do your research before you start making judgements.
your comments regarding W.W. tells me that you either never tried it or you like to toot your own horn I as well as many of my friends and family members have been very successful with the points system, What you don’t know is that they teach you the values of making the right choices such as choosing lean meats, low fat, and high fiber foods keeping a healthy and active life style. It enables you to loose weight and keep it off by allowing you to have that treat once in a while and not feel guilty about it, that’s one of the reasons you can stay on the points because its not a diet it’s a smart way of life, unlike fad diets that promise you the world and make you gain twice the amount of weight that you lost or give you pills that you can’t or don’t want to live on for the rest of your life. What I find interesting about your website is that everyone who commented was in favor of W.W. and not one nut job supported your theory! While you take your time figuring out an answer for me as silly as it may be I will be out enjoying my summer vaca. Counting my points looking great and keeping the weight off thanks to weight watchers.
I have been a member of weight watchers since 1993, I learned from weight watchers how to eat healthy and control portions. I have been at my goal or lower for about 15 years now. They really do teach sensable eating habits. Not everyone has to be on the point system, they do know calories count.
I love WW and happen to know several people who have used it to keep their weight off for years! I love it because it is so simple and you eat healthy! I traded in my stomach problems for WW and don’t regret a moment of it, plus I am losing weight!
