Obesity Blood Pressure Baby Boomers

Half of baby boomer Americans have high blood pressure while two out of five are obese according to the U.S. government. Life expectancy however continues to increase and deaths from heart disease, stroke and cancer continue to decline.

Even though it has, I find it hard to believe that the life expectancy will continue to rise if obesity also continues to rise. The associated problems with obesity such as diabetes can set off a whole lot of additional problems such as increased rates of heart attacks, loss of limbs, and blindness.

The data was collected by the National Center for Health Statistics from the 55-to-64 demographic who are the oldest of the Baby Boomers.

According to the report 40 percent of 55- to 64-year-olds were obese and also the use of prescription drugs skyrocketed. Cholesterol lowering drugs roughly tripled among men and women from 1995-96 to 2002-0.

According to Yahoo News

The average annual rate of increase for prescription drug expenditures was higher than for any other category of health expenditure, a trend that began in 1995.

And deaths from heart disease, stroke and cancer declined between 2 percent and 5 percent.

But along with that longevity comes a greater prevalence of chronic diseases.

How good is the quality of life for these baby boomers with the high blood pressure and obesity?
