This little Jaguar cub was just recently born in Berlin Zoo. You can see him here with mother ‘Kiara’.
Jaguars are one of the four big cats along with the tiger, the lion and the leopard (cheetahs don’t count as big cats).
They’re pretty solitary and good swimmers. Some Jaguars can be entirely black if they have melanism (plus you also get the rear albinos). The jaguar used to live as far north as Southern California and western Texas. In 2004 Jaguar’s were photographed in Arizona. But they mainly live in South America now days as far as Argentina.
Back in the day they used to be as big as 190 kilograms but now days they mainly way around 100 kilos.
Jaguar cubs are born blind and get their site at two weeks. They’re weaned at three months.
The Mom’s do all the parenting and the males are not allowed to hang around once the cubs are born.
The Zoologischer Garten Berlin opened in 1844 and there is around 14,000 animals including Giant Panda’s. During World War II the zoo area was completely destroyed and only 91 animals survived.
There’s also polar bears but I’d be checking out the Jaguar Cub.
Pretty cute.
