Earlier this Fairfax’s new media arm bought New Zealand Ebay trade me equivalent for $700 million dollars.

Today Fairfax Digital released earnings details of $24,000,000 from revenues of $96,000,000 with 3.2 million unique visitors per month.

Fairfax Digital which focuses on new media business predominantly on the internet (with plans to move into mobile video) has leveraged its print advertising relationships to get premium rates for its advertising.

Its also got a number of high priced subscription services.

There are a lot better options around the internet to purchase advertising which gains better ROI.

Still netting 62 cents per unique is huge compared to what fast growing new independent publishers like Shoemoney Media make who are happy with up to 10 cents per unique.

Guys like Shoemoney have achieved a lot and deserve their profiles in the internet money making underground but it seems to me us independent publishers are selling ourselves short.

One thing I will say is this, if was wanting to buy some advertising, and I wanted results with the highest ROI possible I’d be going to guys like Shoemoney and PepperJamSearch over Fairfax Digital any day.

Maybe we each need a team of advertising salespeople.
