Melissa Helyer is the label name and it was launched this week at Britain’s largest fashion trade event, Pure, during London Fashion Week.
“I have always loved 30s art deco buildings and art, especially in New York and Shanghai. They capture the revolution that was happening then.
“Before the depression hit, artists were able to experiment with film, furniture to interiors to express themselves.
“Everything from jazz to the 30s dance halls influence me – from the patterns to the cut of the garments.
“The 1970s clothes movement was actually influenced by the 30s and it’s interesting how both eras reflected people experiencing historical change.
“The 1970s had new fabrics like polyester and colours ready for lounge parties and disco.”
“I combine the mix of modern lounge dresses that have a style and a design influenced from both 1970s and 1930s. I revive it into a piece for present-day but keeping it timeless.”
Melissa Helyer has already had interest from Copenhagen, Sweden, Asia and Dublin.
